On demand events on the NFHS Network site may be presented with audio that is muted or otherwise altered to avoid potential issues involving music copyright.  We cannot make any exceptions to this policy.

Video files with original unaltered audio may be downloaded from Console for educational use ONLY and are not intended for public distribution.

Why does it matter?

Record labels and artists have tools at their disposal to detect any instances in which their material is present. They may allege this is copyright infringement even when the copyrighted material is incidental to the event.  Defending against claims of copyright infringement involves expense and risk, whether or not it is ultimately determined that no infringement occurred.  Since your school owns the content and we are the distribution platform, we are both at risk.  Our audio policy is in place to mitigate this risk and protect both “you” (the content owner) and “us” (the platform) from potential lawsuits.

My event doesn’t have any copyrighted music – why is the audio still affected?

OR

The music only played for a short period of time, but the audio was muted for much longer than that.  Why?

We use technology to automatically “check” archived video content and remove potentially copyrighted audio.  Sometimes the technology will “overcorrect” resulting in the removal or deletion of audio longer than the potentially copyrighted audio’s duration.  We are continually working to improve this process and make it more precise, but this technology is still in its early phases of development.

Our school acquired the rights for the music in the events we broadcast – does that mean the audio won’t be affected?
